Variant 2

Applies to: EMS S6

Detection

The battery voltage has been above the permitted level. It has been above 30.56 V for 5 seconds.

Possible cause

A charging fault on the alternator may, for example, result in a constant battery voltage of 36 V.

System reaction

The engine will start to idle if the battery voltage has been in the 30.56 V – 47 V range for 15 minutes.

How to fix

  1. Check the battery and alternator.
  2. Check the harness-to-harness connectors and electrical cables.

Variant 3

Applies to: EMS S7

Detection

The battery voltage has been above the permitted level.

Possible cause

A fault in the alternator can cause it to charge too much.

System reaction

The engine control unit switches off the EGR circuit and the engine power is reduced.

How to fix

  1. Check the alternator and measure the voltage in the system.
  2. If the operating time since the fault code was generated exceeds 10 hours, drain the EGR cooler as there is a risk that condensed water will form in the air-cooled EGR cooler when the EGR system has been switched off.
  3. Drain according to instructions in Workshop Manual, sub-group 01-65.

Applies to: EMS S8

The battery voltage has been above the permitted level.

A fault in the alternator can cause it to charge too much.
