What does Scania EMS fault code 183 mean?
The variable coolant pump speed is lower than the requested speed.
What causes Scania DTC 183?
- Too little or no oil in the pump coupling due to leakage. - Poor oil viscosity in the pump coupling. - Poor tension in the drive belt.
How does the system react?
Cooling capacity is reduced, which could lead to reduced torque.
How to fix Scania EMS fault code 183?
- Check the drive belt.
- Renew the variable coolant pump.
- Check that the fault has been rectified using the diagnostic tool.

The variable coolant pump speed is lower than the requested rotational speed.
Possible cause
- Too little or no oil in the pump coupling due to leakage. - Poor oil viscosity in the pump coupling. - Poor tension in the drive belt. - Mechanical fault in the coolant pump actuator.
Symptoms
- A fault in the pump coupling reduces the engine cooling capacity. - The engine temperature may be higher than normal and the engine fan may be used more. - Too high an engine temperature reduces engine torque.
How to fix
- Check the drive belt.
- Check the idler wheel and belt tensioner.
- Renew coolant pump.
