What does Scania TMS fault code 690 mean?
The control unit generates an interrupt message, it is not receiving engine information.
What causes Scania DTC 690?
- Open circuit in the cable harness. - Fault in harness-to-harness connector. - The engine management system cannot transmit messages.
What are the symptoms?
Exhaust brake not working. Impaired gear shift performance.
How to fix Scania TMS fault code 690?
- Check the cable harness and harness-to-harness connector to GMS control unit E5 and EMS control unit E44.
- Check whether there are fault codes related to the control units and action these.
- Check whether there are software updates for the control units and install them.
- If the fault persists, renew engine control unit E44.
- If the fault still persists, renew GMS control unit E5. .
Variant 2: Inverter E82, node B, and gearbox control unit, inconsistent chassis serial number

Detection
The chassis serial number from node B on inverter E82 does not match the chassis serial number from the gearbox control unit.
Possible cause
- Fault in the cable harness for CAN communication between the inverter and the gearbox control unit. - Wrong spare part programming in the inverter or gearbox control unit.
System reaction
- Red warning indication is displayed for the coordinator. - The vehicle can be driven.
How to fix
- Check the cable harness for CAN communication to the inverter.
- Check the chassis serial number used in the inverter and gearbox control unit.
- Spare part program the gearbox control unit and inverter.
Variant 3: Not valid for TMS5 - Chassis number of MGU2B (0xF2) not consistent with TMS's chassis number
