What does Scania EAS fault code 784896 mean?
Signals from internal temperature sensor in the control unit deviate too implausibly from each other.
What causes Scania DTC 784896?
Internal fault in the control unit.
How does the system react?
- Yellow warning indication of an electrically assisted steering fault is displayed. - Power steering reduced. - Steering assistance is reduced to 38%.
What are the symptoms?
Functions related to electrically assisted steering are limited.
How to fix Scania EAS fault code 784896?
- Turn off the 15 voltage with the starter key.
- Allow the control unit to cool down so that the difference between the internal temperature of the control unit and the circuit board temperature of the control unit is ± 29°C.
- If the fault remains or recurs, renew the control unit including electric motor.
Variant 2: Check for temperature deviation

Detection
1. Temperature out of range. 2. Deviation between the internal ECU temperature sensors > 30. 3. The DTC will set during the following condition: 1.System state: PreDrive, DriveDown, DriveUp, Error, LowVolt. 2.System voltage is above 6v. 3.System voltage is below 42v.
Possible cause
1. Defective powerpack. 2. Defective Temperature sensor.
System reaction
Set the Yellow Lamp to "On". Steering Assistance reduced to 38%. DTC not affected ASM functionality, ASM functionality active with reduction
Symptoms
Limited electronic steering functions.
How to fix
- Step-1: Switch-Off the ECU.

- Klemme-15 Off) Step-2: Let the ECU cool-down so that deviation between the board temperature and the sensor calculated temperature is +/- 29°.
- Step-3: Power-on the ECU.
