What does Scania EMS fault code 61441 mean?
Incorrect shutdown of engine control unit.
What causes Scania DTC 61441?
Power from the engine control unit has been cut too early. This may be because the engine has not been switched off correctly with the key or because the battery master switch has been used. The voltage supply may be interrupted if extra equipment has been connected.
How does the system react?
Shutdown test means that the control unit carries out an operational test after the power has been switched off using the key and the data is saved. If the shutdown test is interrupted, not all data is saved correctly. - When this fault code is active, engine torque is reduced by approximately 40%. - If an SCR system is present, it may be damaged by an incorrect shutdown of the engine control unit. Reductant may freeze in the SCR system hoses and the nozzles may become clogged. - The engine may take longer to start because data from the previous driving cycle has not been updated.
How to fix Scania EMS fault code 61441?
The engine must always be switched off using the key.
Variant 2: Engine control unit E44, repeated incorrect shutdown
Applies to: EMS10
Detection
The EMS control unit wakes up in a different state than expected after normal shutdown.
Possible cause
- The battery master switch is activated before the engine control unit has completed its shutdown. - The battery clips are removed when 15 voltage is on. - The control unit is disconnected from the cable harness when 15 voltage is on. - Fault in the cable harness for electric power supply of the engine control unit. NOTE: The time between switching off 15 voltage and the engine control unit completing its shutdown can differ between a few seconds and up to 30 minutes. The long shutdown times are related to the shutdown of the SCR system and its cooling and cleaning of urea injectors.
Symptoms
- Data saved during the engine management system's shutdown phase may be lost. - Improper shutdown during SCR system cleaning and cooling may result in damage to the SCR system.
How to fix
- Always switch off the system with the starter key and check that the control unit is completely switched off before activating the battery master switch.
- Check that the cable harness for electric power supply of the engine control unit is intact.
