What does Scania EMD fault code 5839 mean?
NOx sensor T131 upstream of the catalytic converter indicates a static value. The value should vary according to engine speed and load.
What causes Scania DTC 5839?
Fault in NOx sensor or incorrectly fitted NOx sensor. Note: If the NOx sensor is subsequently fitted outside of the exhaust stream the applicable legislation cannot be met.
How does the system react?
The fault affects the engine's nitrous oxide emissions. Depending on the emission class, it will result in torque reduction, speed limitation and a warning indication.
How to fix Scania EMD fault code 5839?
- Check NOx sensor T131.
- Check via Electrical system > EMS > T131 > Checks that the NOx content changes during acceleration.
- If the NOx sensor indicates a static value: Check that the NOx sensor is fitted correctly.
- If no other faults are found, renew the NOx sensor.
- Run Functions > Check > Powertrain > Emission control > Exhaust gas aftertreatment > Exhaust gas aftertreatment, function test SCR > Selection of subtest > Checking NOx sensors.
- Verification Turn off the power with the starter key.
- Wait until the button for the hazard warning signal has been extinguished.
- Switch on the voltage with the starter key.
- Check that the fault code has been deactivated.
- Clear the fault code.
- Switch the voltage off and on 3 times; wait until the hazard warning lamp button has gone out between each time.
- The emissions warning lamp should then be extinguished.
