What does Scania EME fault code 401 mean?
Fuel pressure sensor fault.
What causes Scania DTC 401?
The fuel pressure sensor may have several different faults.
How does the system react?
The engine management system is switched off and the engine speed is limited to idling speed. When this fault code is active the fuel pressure displayed in the diagnostic tool will be incorrect. This is because the engine control unit always transmits a basic value to the diagnostic tool if it has lost contact with the fuel pressure sensor, irrespective of the actual fuel pressure. For some engine types the fault code cannot be deleted when it is active.
How to fix Scania EME fault code 401?
- Run Safety precautions for the fuel system.
- Check the circuit components, harness-to-component connectors and electrical cables.
- If the operating time since the fault code was generated exceeds 10 hours, drain the EGR cooler as there is a risk that condensed water will form in the air-cooled EGR cooler when the EGR system has been switched off.
- Drain as described in the Workshop Manual > 01-65 EGR system > Air-cooled EGR cooler > Assembly
- Draining the air-cooled EGR cooler on 13 litre engines with XPI.
- Verification Verify that the fault has been rectified:
- Leave the engine idling for up to 30 seconds
- Check that the fault code has become inactive
- Clear the fault code
