What causes Scania DTC 5885?

- Fuel or oil leaks into the exhaust gas flow, e.g. from the fuel injector in the cylinder heads or oil from the turbocharger. - Fault in the temperature sensor T158. - An exhaust system that has been tampered with results in a low air flow through the oxidation catalytic converter and the particulate filter. - Fault in mass flow sensor T126. - Fault in charge air pressure sensor T122. - Fault in the temperature sensor T158. - Fuel or oil leaks into the exhaust gas flow, e.g. from the fuel injector in the cylinder heads or oil from the turbocharger. - An exhaust system that has been tampered with results in a low air flow through the oxidation catalytic converter and the particulate filter. - Fault in combined sensor T47. - Fault in temperature sensor T4012. - Fuel or oil leaks into the exhaust gas flow, e.g. from the fuel injector in the cylinder heads or oil from the turbocharger. - An exhaust system that has been tampered with results in a low air flow through the oxidation catalytic converter and the particulate filter. - Fault in charge air pressure sensor T122.

How does the system react?

Particulate filter regeneration is not possible. The fault affects the engine's emissions of nitrogen oxides. Depending on the emission class, it will result in torque reduction, speed limitation and a warning indication. The fault affects the engine's emissions of nitrogen oxides. How to fix Scania EME fault code 5885?

  1. Check and rectify fault codes relating to the fuel system and gas exchange system.
  2. Check the exhaust gas temperature on generation of the fault code.
  3. If only one of the values is implausible and indicates e.g. less than 0°C or more than 600°C compared with the other values, it is probably a fault on temperature sensor T158.
  4. Go to T158, Temperature sensor and check that: - the values on the different temperatures sensors change. - temperature sensor T158 is fitted correctly.
  5. Oil or fuel leaks can cause temperature increases, run Manual check for oil in the silencer.
  6. Run Exhaust gas aftertreatment, particulate filter function test and select Checking the temperature sensor.
  7. Run Fuel leak test to find any faulty fuel injectors.
  8. Check that the exhaust system has not been tampered with.
  9. Check that the flow through the charge air system is normal under:
  10. T126, Mass flow sensor, only applies to engines with EGR.
  11. T122, Charge air pressure sensor, only applies to engines without EGR.
  12. Verification Run Exhaust gas aftertreatment, particulate filter function test and select Checking the temperature sensor.
  13. Check and rectify fault codes relating to the fuel system and gas exchange system.
  14. Check T158, Temperature sensor.
  15. Check that the values of the different temperature sensors change.
  16. Check that temperature sensor T158 is fitted correctly.
  17. Check the fuel system, look for e.g. a leaking injector.
  18. A low oil level may indicate an oil leak.
  19. Remove the flexible hose from the silencer.
  20. Check whether there are leaks in the exhaust system between the engine and silencer.
  21. Look for black smoke or white smoke when accelerating since this may indicate a fault on the injectors or an incorrect mixture of fuel and air.
  22. Verification Verify that the fault is rectified by running Comparative check of the temperature sensor.
  23. Alternative verification: drive the vehicle under load for up to 60 mins.
  24. Check and rectify fault codes relating to the fuel system and gas exchange system.
  25. Check the exhaust gas temperature on generation of the fault code.
  26. If only one of the values is implausible and indicates e.g. less than 0°C or more than 600°C compared with the other values, it is probably a fault with the deviating temperature sensor.
  27. Check temperature sensors T4012, T4010 and T113.
  28. Check that the values of the different temperature sensors change.
  29. Check that the temperature sensors are properly fitted.
