Variant 1: NOx sensor at silencer outlet, fixed value
Applies to: EMS10
What does Scania EMS fault code 4133 mean?
The NOx sensor at the silencer outlet, T115, indicates a fixed value, even though the engine speed and load vary.
What causes Scania DTC 4133?
- Fault in the NOx sensor at the silencer outlet. - Incorrectly fitted NOx sensor.
How to fix Scania EMS fault code 4133?
- Check NOx sensor at silencer outlet, T115.
- Check via NOx sensor T115 that the NOx content changes during throttle actuation.
- If the NOx sensor indicates a static value, check that the NOx sensor is fitted correctly.
- If no other faults are found, renew the NOx sensor Verification:
- Verify that the fault is rectified by running Exhaust gas aftertreatment, function test SCR.
- Check that the fault code has been deactivated.
- Clear the fault code.
Variant 2
Applies to: EMS S6
Detection
Incorrect or unreliable data.
Possible cause
Internal fault in the control unit.
System reaction
As a result of the fault, the SCR system is deactivated and injection of reductant stops. The SCR system communication related fault codes 4108, 4106 and 4107 can be generated when the SCR system is deactivated. Carry out troubleshooting using this fault code in the first instance. When the SCR system is deactivated, communication between the SCR control unit and the engine control unit may be interrupted. To ensure correct fault code handling, the control units must be able to communicate with each other. Try to re-establish communication by switching off the ignition voltage and then waiting 90 seconds before switching it on again. The fault affects the vehicle's emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and the lamp which warns about a high level of contaminants comes on in the instrument cluster. A text message is also displayed in vehicles with NOx monitoring. Vehicles with NOx monitoring An active fault code limits the maximum engine torque by approximately 40%. An active fault code cannot be cleared from the control unit. When the fault has been rectified, the control unit must verify that the fault has been rectified in order for the fault code to become inactive.
How to fix
- Renew the SCR control unit.
- This means that the main unit must be renewed.
- Proceed as follows to verify that the fault has been rectified: Switch off the ignition with the starter key, wait for at least 90 seconds and switch it on again with the starter key for 30 seconds.
- If the fault is resolved, the fault code becomes inactive.
- Clear the fault code.
- Switch the power off and on with the starter key three times in succession at 10 second intervals to turn off the warning lamp.
Variant 3: T115 NOx sensor downstream of the catalytic converter
Applies to: EMS S8
Detection
NOx sensor T115 downstream of the catalytic converter indicates a static value. The value should vary according to engine speed and load.
Possible cause
- Fault in NOx sensor T115. - The NOx sensor is not fitted correctly.
System reaction
The fault affects the engine's nitrous oxide emissions. Depending on the emission class, the fault will result in torque reduction, speed limitation and a warning indication. NOTE: If the NOx sensor is subsequently fitted outside of the exhaust stream, the applicable legislation cannot be observed.
How to fix
- Check NOx sensor T115 downstream of the catalytic converter
- Check via NOx sensor T115 that the NOx content changes during throttle actuation.
- If the NOx sensor indicates a static value, check that the NOx sensor is fitted correctly.
- If no other faults are found, renew the NOx sensor.
- Verification Verify that the fault is rectified by running Exhaust gas aftertreatment, function test SCR.
- Select test stage Checking the NOx sensor.
- Check that the fault code has been deactivated.
- Clear the fault code.
