What does Scania SC fault code 9856 mean?
The information from the impulse sensor and ABS/EBS is contradictory.
What causes Scania DTC 9856?
The impulse sensor indicates that the vehicle is stationary whereas the ABS/EBS indicates that the vehicle is in motion.
How to fix Scania SC fault code 9856?
- Check the cable harness.
- Check whether any prohibited changes have been made.
- Pair up a new impulse sensor with the tachograph and check whether it works.
- If the new impulse sensor works, renew the defective impulse sensor and calibrate the new impulse sensor with the tachograph.
Variant 2: Road speed sensor

Detection
The information from the road speed sensor indicates the vehicle is stationary whereas the 2nd movement source indicates that the vehicle is in motion.
Possible cause
- Road speed sensor fault. - Road speed sensor manipulation. - Fault in comparison between the road speed signal from the road speed sensor and independent road speed source (satellite positioning in this case).
System reaction
A warning is displayed in the instrument cluster.
How to fix
- Check the cable harness.
- Check whether any prohibited changes have been made (manipulation).
- Pair up a new road speed sensor with the tachograph and check whether it works.
- If the new speed sensor is working, renew the defective road speed sensor and calibrate the tachograph.
- Check the satellite positioning signal by using the tachograph calibration equipment and the instructions on how to check satellite positioning.
