What does Scania EMD fault code 277 mean?

The coolant temperature value does not change even though the engine is under high load.

What causes Scania DTC 277?

- Fault in the temperature sensor, its harness-to-component connectors or cable harness. - The temperature sensor is not correctly fitted or has been tampered with.

How does the system react?

The engine power is reduced. The engine control unit reduces the torque to protect the engine. The fault code cannot be cleared when it is active.

How to fix Scania EMD fault code 277?

  1. Check whether the coolant temperature is static.
  2. Check the coolant temperature sensor's harness-to-component connectors and cable harness.
  3. Change the coolant temperature sensor if necessary.
  4. To clear the fault code: Run the engine with a medium or heavy load.
  5. If the fault has been rectified, the fault code becomes inactive and can be cleared.
  6. Note: Always perform Functions > Check > Powertrain > Engine > EGR system > Exhaust gas aftertreatment, function test EGR when this fault code has been generated.
