What does Scania BMU fault code 562 mean?

Communication with IBU interrupted. The fault code becomes active if CAN messages fail to arrive from IBU. The fault code becomes inactive when CAN messages from IBU are received again.

What causes Scania DTC 562?

Electric power supply to IBU missing. The 15 voltage signal to IBU missing. IBU is disconnected from RES-SUB-CAN. Faulty IBU unit.

How does the system react?

Yellow warning indication of an electric drive system fault is displayed.

What are the symptoms?

If the vehicle has multiple propulsion batteries: - The contactors cannot be closed on the relevant propulsion battery. - The vehicle's total battery capacity and range are reduced. If the vehicle has only one propulsion battery: - VOR. - Electric drive of the vehicle is not possible. - The vehicle's 24 V voltage is turned off. - No charge is possible.

How to fix Scania BMU fault code 562?

  1. Check fault codes for BMU E81 regarding the IBU.
  2. Check that the IBU harness-to-component connector is connected to supply voltage.
  3. Check that the unit has the correct supply voltage on RES in the cable harness harness-to-component connector.
  4. Check that the unit has the correct ground connection on RES in the cable harness harness-to-component connector.
  5. Check that the unit has the correct wake-up signal on RES in the cable harness harness-to-component connector.
  6. Measure the resistance on RES SUB CAN on BMU E81.
  7. Warning!
  8. Renewing the IBU is electrical work and must only be carried out by authorised personnel.
  9. Make the vehicle safe according to Procedures for all electrical work on hybrid vehicles.
  10. Renew the IBU.
  11. When renewing IBU, run Calibrating propulsion battery information.

Detection

Communication with IBU interrupted. The fault code becomes active if CAN messages from IBU have been missing for 200 ms. The fault code becomes inactive when CAN messages from IBU are received again. The fault code is not set in the following scenarios: - If the 15 voltage is off. - During the first 2 seconds after the 15 voltage has been switched on. - If the supply voltage is below 22 V. - If the supply voltage is above 32 V. - In the event of a short circuit or open circuit on RES-CAN (separate fault code).

Possible cause

Electric power supply to IBU missing. The 15 voltage signal to IBU missing. IBU is disconnected from RES-CAN. Faulty IBU unit.

System reaction

How to fix

  1. Check fault codes for BMU E81 regarding the IBU.
  2. Check that the RES harness-to-component connector is connected to the battery.
  3. Check that the unit receives the correct voltage supply from RES, pin 1 in the cable harness harness-to-component connector.
  4. Check that the unit has the correct ground connection on RES, pin 3 in the cable harness harness-to-component connector.
  5. Check that the unit has the correct wake-up signal on RES, pin 2 in the cable harness harness-to-component connector.
  6. Measure the resistance on RES-CAN on the BMU E81 between CAN-high (pin B11) and CAN-low (pin B14) with RES-CAN disconnected.
  7. The value should be close to 60 ohms (a 120 ohm resistor is located at each end of the CAN bus).
  8. Lift out the propulsion battery E83 from the vehicle.
  9. Warning!
  10. Renewing the IBU is electrical work and must only be carried out by authorised personnel.
  11. Make the vehicle safe according to Procedures for all electrical work on hybrid vehicles.
  12. Renew the IBU.
  13. When renewing IBU, run Calibrating propulsion battery information.
