Scania EMD DTC 218 Main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side

EMD EMD control unit · Scania · 2 variants

Code 218 (decimal). Some diagnostic tools show it in hexadecimal as 00DA.

In short

The main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3 indicates an implausibly low temperature compared with the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the driver’s side H2 and the temperature sensor in the intake manifold (T126 or T202).

Variant 1

Applies to: EMD0

What does Scania EMD fault code 218 mean?

The main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3 indicates an implausibly low temperature compared with the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the driver’s side H2 and the temperature sensor in the intake manifold (T126 or T202).

What causes Scania DTC 218?

- Fault in the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3. - Fault in the harness-to-component connectors or cable harness of the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3. - The main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3 has been exposed to abnormally low temperatures compared with the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the driver’s side H2 and the temperature sensor in the intake manifold (T126 or T202).

How to fix Scania EMD fault code 218?

  1. Compare the temperature between the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3, the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the driver’s side H2 and the temperature sensor in the intake manifold (T126 or T202).
  2. Check the harness-to-component connectors and cable harness of the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3.
  3. Renew the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3.
  4. Verification To verify that the fault has been rectified, drive the vehicle at more than 30 km/h for more than 2 minutes.
  5. If the fault has been rectified, the fault code becomes inactive and can be cleared.

Variant 2

Applies to: EMD1

Detection

The main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3 indicates an implausibly low temperature compared with the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the driver’s side H2 and the temperature sensor in the intake manifold (T126 or T202).

Possible cause

Possible causes: - Fault in the main mirror and wide-angle mirror heater element on the passenger side H3.

System reaction

If the vehicle is equipped with EGR, there is a risk that the EGR system will shut down at low ambient temperatures.

How to fix
