Variant 1: Injector cylinder 7, open circuit
Applies to: EMS10
What does Scania EMS fault code 519 mean?
The engine control unit has detected an abnormal voltage, indicating a break in the circuit.
What are the symptoms?
Vibration and noise can occur. Engine response and power may be affected.
How to fix Scania EMS fault code 519?
- Check the electrical cable pin connections in the connector to the control unit and the cable grommet in the cylinder head.
- Disconnect the electrical cable connections from the control unit, solenoid valve and faulty injector.
- Measure the resistance across the solenoid valve.
- Resistance is listed under the component.
- If the value deviates, renew the injector.
- Measure the resistance between the two loose ends of the positive cable and the negative cable.
- Use the buzzer function on the multimeter to determine if the lead has a resistance.
- Renew the cable if it is broken.
Variant 2
Applies to: EMS S7
Detection
Injector cylinder 7 cable/injector open load. Reset Condition Not Defined Self Healing No selfhealing (GAS: No selfhealing) Detection Permanent open circuit detected on the injector coil(s) or the cabling to the injector(s). Faults detected only when engine is running. System Reaction The system will continuously try to use the injectors regardless of malfunction. Gas engine: Torque is limited
Possible cause
Cables or injector connected to cylinder 7 malfunction. Probably the cable(s) or the coil(s) is broken.
How to fix
- Disconnect connectors on the ECU and cables on the coil to the faulty injector(s).
- Measure resistance over coil; should be around 0.2 - 0.4 O.
- Check the cabling attachment to the ECU connector and through the cylinder head.
- Measure resistance between both ends of the high and low side of cables respectively (coil and ECU disconnected); there should be almost 0.0 O.Check injector for electrical fault -Check wiring -Replace injector After repair, restart engine to remove DTC | Disconnect connectors on the ECU and cables on the coil to the faulty injector(s).

Variant 3: Cylinder 7
Applies to: EMS S8
Detection
Open circuit detected in the injector solenoid valve or in the electrical cables to the injector.
Possible cause
The electrical cable or solenoid valve for the injector on cylinder 7 is probably defective.
System reaction
The fault only occurs when the engine is running. The control unit continuously tries to use the injectors irrespective of malfunctions. Engine power is affected to different degrees depending on how many injectors are faulty.
How to fix
- Run Safety precautions for the fuel system.
- Disconnect the electrical cable connections from the control unit and from the solenoid valve on the defective injector.
- Measure the resistance across the solenoid valve.
- Check the electrical cable pin connections in the switch to the control unit and the cable grommet in the cylinder head.
- Measure the resistance between the two loose ends of the positive cable and the negative cable.
- If the operating time since the fault code was generated exceeds 10 hours, drain the EGR cooler as there is a risk that condensation forms in the air-cooled EGR cooler when the EGR system has been switched off.
- Drain according to the instructions in Workshop Manual, subgroup 01-65.
- Check the injector for electrical faults.
- Check that the electrical cables to the injectors are intact.
- Renew the injector if it is faulty.
- Start the engine after replacing the injector to confirm that the repair was successful. |
