What does Scania BMU fault code 786 mean?
Solenoid valve for the propulsion battery cooling system is short-circuited to ground. Detected using electric diagnostics in BMU.
What causes Scania DTC 786?
Damage to solenoid valve V194, harness-to-component connectors or cable harness.
What are the symptoms?
Heating of the propulsion battery is not possible. If the ambient temperature is low the propulsion battery may not reach operating temperature. This could lead to a deterioration in the performance of the electric drive system.
How to fix Scania BMU fault code 786?
- Check the cable harness and harness-to-component connectors for the solenoid valve.
- Check the solenoid valve.
- Renew the BMU E81.
- When renewing BMU, run Calibrating propulsion battery information.

Detection
Solenoid valve for the propulsion battery cooling system is short-circuited to ground. Detected using electric diagnostics in BMU.
Possible cause
Damage to solenoid valve V194 or cable harness.
Symptoms
Heating of the propulsion battery is not possible. If the ambient temperature is low the propulsion battery may not reach operating temperature. This could lead to a deterioration in the performance of the electric drive system.
How to fix
- Measure solenoid valve V194 between V194-1 and ground.
- If there is contact, renew solenoid valve V194.
- Disconnect E81-C and measure the electrical cable between E81-C11 and ground.
- If there is contact, renew the electrical cable.
- Renew the BMU E81.
- When renewing BMU, run Calibrating propulsion battery information.
